Job Description: Category Manager
This successful, ambitious retail group is recruiting a Category Manager to lead a transformation in the management of product categories, supplier relationships and the customer offering. You will own the strategic development of retail performance in a role that includes:
 
  • Lead improvements across product range, store distribution and availability. 
  • Build relationships with suppliers that deliver better pricing, margin and support.
  • Analyse sales data to determine trends, gaps and opportunities.
  • Ensure optimal SKU count and space allocation by category.
  • Build joint business plans with key strategic suppliers.
  • Introduce a calendar for range reviews.
  • Manage and develop the Buyer and buying admin team.
 
Candidate Profile: Category Manager
This is a rare opportunity to shape a new function from the ground up, working cross functionally with buying, marketing, retail, and commercial teams. Your insights will drive sales growth, margin improvement, and a new level of commercial capability across the business. We are looking for an experienced Category Manager with:
 
  • Proven category management experience within a multi-site retail operation.
  • A track record of leading and delivering annual category management growth plans. 
  • A data led approach with space planning, pricing, and insight tools (e.g. JDA, Nielsen, Kantar).
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, able to work across teams and with suppliers.
  • An impressive commercial mindset and an appetite for driving sales and margin.
  • Likely to be living in Scotland or the North of England.
