Job Description:
Reporting to the Sales Manager, you will be responsible for building a trade presence in the garden centre and merchant channel, developing and managing partnerships with new accounts, expanding the company’s reach and increasing sales.
While managing some existing accounts, the main purpose of the role is to win new business, typically with;
- Independent and regional garden product retailers
- Garden centres
- Builders and Timber Merchants
- Housebuilders
- Clicks and Bricks businesses.
You will maintain the relationships and sales levels via regular visits, being available to support all customer needs and securing new opportunities.
As part of the day to day, you will attend relevant trade shows and networking events to further grow our client reach, as well as monitoring of competitor activity to identify opportunities and defend threats.

Based in Nottinghamshire, Mercia Garden Products Ltd is one of the UK’s largest manufacturers, retailers and distributors of timber garden products including sheds, summerhouses, log cabins, garden rooms, playhouses, and greenhouses. We are a well-established supplier to leading retailers including B&Q, Toolstation, Wickes, Robert Dyas, Argos and Wayfair. Candidate profile: Business Development Manager
To compliment the skills of the management and office based team, we are looking for a candidate with:
- 5+ years of experience selling to the garden trade sector
- A proven track record of account opening and business development
- Tenacity and drive, ability to work independently
- Communication, negotiation and relationship building skills
- Enjoy being on the road and customer facing
Salary/Benefits Information:
- A negotiable basic salary and incentive package that will reward sales growth, plus hybrid company car or car allowance.
