The Opportunity
A rare opening has arisen following the planned retirement of a long-serving and highly regarded Account Director at one of the markets leading insurance broking groups. The business is seeking an exceptional senior professional to inherit and steward a stable, well-established client portfolio — this is succession, not rescue. Client relationships are warm, the book is secure, and the business is fully committed to a well-managed transition.
The Role
Based in Bristol with hybrid working, you will take full ownership of a diverse UK client portfolio spanning mid-market to large corporate and international risks, with client turnovers ranging from £10m to £500m+. You will be supported by one of the most dynamic commercial broking teams in the market, with access to specialist resource across the wider group.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage and develop an established client portfolio, delivering expert risk advice and outstanding service
- Lead the renewal process end-to-end, including market negotiations and client presentations
- Identify organic growth opportunities within the existing book and cross-refer into specialist teams
- Act as a trusted risk adviser at senior/board level across a broad range of commercial lines
- Collaborate with internal specialists on complex, bespoke, and international placements
- Ensure full FCA regulatory compliance and maintain the business’s high governance standards
The Ideal Candidate
- Proven track record as a senior Account Executive or Account Director in commercial insurance broking
- Demonstrable expertise managing complex client portfolios, including mid-market and large corporate risks
- Strong technical knowledge across core commercial lines; international experience advantageous
- Board-level communication skills and the gravitas to act as a genuine risk adviser
- Strategic, proactive, and self-motivated — able to manage a significant book with minimal oversight
Why Consider This Role?
- Step into a stable, well-regarded book — no requirement to build from scratch
- The backing of a globally recognised broker with extensive specialist resource
- Bristol base, hybrid working, and a national client footprint
- Highly competitive package: £70,000–£110,000 basic + performance bonus + comprehensive benefits
